Lise Aubin Arseneau

bio
Lise Aubin-Arseneau, Métis, is an emerging self-taught artist originally from French River, Ontario. She is a mixed media artist whose work draws inspiration from introspection, REM sleep, and spiritual practice. Using pencil, ink, watercolor, oil, egg tempera and photographs, her work incorporates illusions of movement, depth and luminosity, images within images, and scenes within scenes. Lise has participated in Contact 2008 Toronto Photography Festival, and has recently been invited to show her work at Toronto City Hall in June 2008, as well as shows in Black Creek Village. A sponsored solo exhibit with ANDPVA (Association for Native Development in the Performing and Visual Arts) in Toronto, Ontario is in the works.
Philosophy - With wide eyes, we are aware of the magic and mystery of life and create because we wish to learn. Artists invite fellow travelers to journey within self and to dance the dance of “visual” music while becoming the keepers of vision and hope. Style - I am a completely self taught artist. As for style, I embrace my creative impulses and create imaginary worlds. During these times, whatever medium I believe would lend itself as “medicine” I go with. I express myself through photography, wood carving, drawing, beadwork, crafts, digital art and create paint by numbers. My greatest passion is working with colored clay. There are numerous dreamlike miniature scenes within scenes in these pieces which I call amulets. When one rotates these miniature art pieces, new images appear. Let the eyes of the beholder see what they see. I believe that for each and every one of us, unlimited possibilities abound.
