Linda Kauppi

Kauppi was born in Sudbury, Ontario in 1950 and began drawing and painting a few years later. Formal training began at age 14 at the Elliot Lake Centre For Continuing Education where she was introduced to landscape painting, still life and life drawing and later continued on to the Ontario College of Art & Design. Several years spent living in Whitefish Falls solidified a love of landscape painting. This small village is located where the Whitefish River empties into the northern waters of Lake Huron and is nestled in the midst of the white quartzite mountains of the La Cloche Range. The waters of the North Channel back dropped by the terrain of the northern shore provided endless material for an artist who loves to be “in the bush, on the water and up in the hills.” Linda now lives near Edmonton Alberta.

“The effects of weather, light and seasons on the face of the land ensure that what we see is always changing before us and is never again exactly quite the same. While painting a landscape, that fluid moment seems to become a continually present time, mine to hold for a while, its escape into the past delayed.”
