Michel & Ti-Jean - What you need to know before all the tickets are gone is that Michel & ti-Jean is one of those landmark cultural events after which Montreal, Quebec will never be the same, a play that redefines how we live together and how that existence, so changed in recent decades, can make great art.

Full, nuanced performances superbly directed by Sarah Garton-Stanley, backed up by a crack design team and original music by no less than Ian Tamblyn.

Michel & ti-Jean continues at Centaur Theatre in Montreal until March 7. Box office: 514-288-3161

Lucie Idlout

G7 Conference - Lucie Idlout – who opened for the White Stripes when the duo made a surprise 2007 stop in Iqaluit – previewed the song Lovely Irene last night for the news media. With an acoustic guitar and a youth choir singing backup, Ms. Idlout will sing the song again Friday to the ministers about her friend Irene, who was affected by domestic violence. She's selling the track on iTunes and is donating the revenue to Iqaluit's women's shelter.

“It's a heavy topic, but it's not one that is unique to Iqaluit," said Ms. Idlout. “Spousal abuse and violence in families is an issue that exists, period."

The performance captures the two sides of Nunavut. Ms. Idlout's award-winning career shows off the success and potential of the territory's youth, yet the topic of her songs show serious social issues remain.

"I am going to have a show at the Sudbury Theater Center from February 12th to March 11th, 2010. I call it "Moving On" and I have chosen work that I have developed very recently and has not been shown before. I have abstracted northern landscapes with which I am very familiar and I chose to intensify colours and exaggerate shapes."

BEAUTY IN DISCARD
by Elizabeth Holmes

April 3 to May 4, 2010

RECEPTION: SUNDAY 11 APRIL, from 1 to 4 pm

This exhibition will focus on the works of two artists; Laura Landers and Elizabeth Holmes. Haileybury Artist, Laura Landers has used ink, watercolour and pencil over the years in her painting, and teaches many courses in watercolour, mixed media and basic drawing. She has compiled her first exhibition of Mixed Media. (Pastels and Acrylic)

Elizabeth Holmes (Sudbury) is an artist who notices the beauty in small, dismissed items. Working primarily in black and white, the character of the discarded item is made prominent, bringing attention to the perfection of the imperfect. These two artists compliment each other in their artistic use of colour and technique.

This summer Laura is the instructor for the Northern Ontario Artists' Association (NOAA) Cobalt Artists' Colony! This is held (for over 50 years) in the historic town of Cobalt.
