Christopher Varady-Szabo

Bio
Christopher Varady-Szabo, originally from Australia, is now based in Gaspé, Québec. After a year studying architecture at the University of New South Wales, he completed a B.A. in fine arts in 1990 at the University of Quebec in Montreal. His work has been shown in Quebec, Ontario, Switzerland, Finland and Belgium and he has made several public works. He is supported by The Canada Arts Council and the
Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. His activity as an artist involves generating projects that explore the influence that different cultural and physical environments can exert on the manner in which we perceive the world around us. His sculptures bring to mind architectural structures and are made using basic natural materials with primitive and traditional construction techniques. His work seeks to establish analogies between territory and architecture, between people and dwellings, between space, materials and emotional response.
